Philosophy
Like others, maintaining my own positive mental health is work. This can often mean letting myself feel something and letting it go, or identifying the underlying issue and giving it validation. I believe as an adult, if I don't like something I have the power to change it, whether it is my perspective or behavior. I feel that encouraging that same power for change in my clients can help propel them in a direction towards their genuine selves. Having the peace within ourselves means the opportunity for peace to exist around us.
I believe that our lives tell a story. I believe therapy encourages people to be the author of their own lives finding meaning, making healthy choices, and navigating success in their lives. We may not be able to erase what has already been written, but we can learn to make our struggles our strengths while taking control of our present and future.

Melissa has 6 years of experience in elementary education and student behavior support. Melissa gained case management skills from working with different county mental health organizations and non profits.
Melissa specializes in ethical consensual non-monogamy (polyamory) using blended focuses to address the unique relationship dynamics and amplify healthy skills for the individuals involved. Her practice shares a lens in childhood trauma, utilizing knowledge of resiliency to include family and support systems to assist clients in recovery from trauma. As a couples and family therapist she enjoys working with the family unit to learn how to bridge the gap and have healthy relationships. She utilizes Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Collaborative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gottman Theory, and Internal Family Systems. These therapies allow for a safe and reflective environment that can encourage change and inspire hope for clients to heal and recover.
"I enjoy the outdoors, boating, camping, and four wheeling with my family. I am an over the top cheerleader at my children’s sporting events and extra curricular activities. My husband and I have 5 children, 5 chickens, 3 goats, a dog, and a growing collection random hobbies. In my abundance of down time, you can find me either building something I can’t use, hyperventilating at my MMA gym, cross stitching random phrases, or pausing, rewinding, and starting a movie for several hours."
